Color Hosers #4
Regionals
Revisited
How my Sideboards led to my
pathetic Regionals Turnout
By: Flonaze
Most of you who read this will be wondering why I’m writing about a sideboard.
“HEY FLONAZE WHY ARE YOU WRITING ABOUT
SIDEBOARDS????????LOL!!!!!!!!!!!1111111one”… Part of the whole Color Hosers
article scheme that I’m working with here also involves me writing about
different sideboards. So here is one of my sideboard articles for once.
Mono-Red Control Sideboard:
[Regionals 2004]
x3 Grab the Reins
x2 Damping Matrix
x4 Shatter
x4 Echoing Ruin
x1 Furnace Dragon
x1 Shunt
The first and most obvious mistake that I made was running the Shunt instead of
the Oblivion Stone that I had. Next, I should have put the one maindeck Damping
Matrix into the sideboard, and replace it with another Grab the Reins, so the
board should have looked like this:
x2 Grab the Reins
x3 Damping Matrix
x4 Shatter
x4 Echoing Ruin
x2 Oblivion Stone
The Furnace Dragon would also be gone (I still have one maindecked), however the
board is still lacking some anti-White (Flashfires), which would have done
wonders against the MWC deck I faced.
Which brings me to my next part; a small strategy article on Flashfires.
See? I did work a Color Hoser into the article.
Flashfires:

It shuts down mono-white, but are more than 2, if any, still necessary in the
sideboard? If you can work it/them in, then it is never a bad idea to use them,
but otherwise, it is pretty much a dead card, even with the recent popularity of
white decks. Why? Because of a little SOB called Solemn Simulacrum (even though
I run him as well). He will get you an extra card when he dies, which could be a
land, plus the opponent will most likely be in a pretty stable position by the
time casting a Flashfires is actually worth it.
Well, it seems that I’m about ready to wrap things up. I hope you had fun,
because I sure as hell didn’t. You think writing articles for you fat lazy magic
nerds is fun? “HEY FLONAZE!!!!! WHATS WITH THAT LAST COMMENT????? I’M NOT
FAT!!!! LOL!!!!!!111111one.”
Signed,
Flonaze
